ICE Transfer and Release Paths
A person can finish one local custody basis and still enter civil immigration detention. If Le Sueur County Jail transfers the person to ICE or another immigration custodian, removal from the county roster reflects continued custody. The Sheriff's public transfer entry can establish the date, time, legal basis, and receiving agency. The ICE locator then addresses the new custody stage.
Later departure from ICE detention also needs its own source. A locator result can support current detention, but the locator is not described in this research as a durable public release archive. Release under immigration conditions, transfer to another facility, removal from the United States, and return to another sovereign's custody are different outcomes. Do not reduce them to one “released” label.
Le Sueur ICE Transfer Record
Minnesota Statutes § 13.82, subdivision 2, identifies specified adult arrest data as public. It includes whether and where a person is held and the date, time, legal basis, and receiving agency for a custody transfer. Those fields are the best local bridge from Le Sueur County Jail to an immigration search.
Ask Sheriff Records for the identified booking's release or transfer entry. Include full name, date of birth, MNI or booking number if known, and approximate intake date. Request the transfer date and time, legal basis, public receiving-agency entry, release fields if no transfer occurred, and related case or bond disposition. An exact destination may be limited or may change, but the originating record can still distinguish transfer from community release.

The county Data Request Form provides email, mail, fax, and delivery options. Ask for an electronic copy and a cost estimate. A court order may explain the criminal release basis, but the Sheriff's entry is closer to the physical custody movement.
Note: A court case ending or a local sentence completing does not show whether a separate immigration custodian took control afterward.
ICE Detainee Locator Search
The official ICE Online Detainee Locator ordinarily supports two search approaches. An A-number search uses the immigration file number with country of birth. A biographical search uses exact identifying information. Use the A-number when available because names may have spelling, spacing, ordering, or transliteration differences.

Automated access to the locator's current explanatory detail was blocked during research, so no claim is made about a post-release display window. Coverage rules, timing, a facility transfer, and exact identity data can affect results. An ICE non-result should be treated as unresolved until the originating record and appropriate agency route are checked.
Confirm an ICE Custody Change
The safest workflow begins before the ICE search. It verifies the county movement and then uses immigration sources only when the record supports them.
- Check the timestamped Le Sueur County “In Custody” roster. Presence means the person was on that current snapshot; absence does not identify the next destination.
- Call the jail at 507-419-0321 or request Sheriff Records' release or transfer field for the identified booking.
- If the recipient is ICE or immigration authorities, search the official locator by A-number and country of birth, or use exact biographical data.
- Compare spelling, identifiers, birth information, and the date of the county transfer before concluding that a result matches.
- If no result appears, use the official ICE service channel when eligible and check whether another federal, state, or local custodian is named.
When the county record says release on bond, recognizance, or court order with no immigration transfer, the county path remains the relevant source. When it names ICE, a locator match supports continued immigration custody. When it names another jail or Minnesota DOC, use that receiving system instead.

ICE Locator Non-Results
No match can have several explanations. The name may not match the agency form. The A-number or country of birth may be wrong. Intake or transfer data may not yet appear. The person may be outside the locator's displayed population, in another custodian's control, or moved again. The county record may also show that the departure was not an ICE transfer at all.
- A-number
- An immigration file identifier used in the locator with country of birth.
- Detainer
- A request or legal basis related to another agency's custody interest.
- Civil detention
- Immigration custody, which is legally distinct from a criminal jail or prison sentence.
- Transfer
- A move between custodians that does not itself mean release to the community.
Repeat the search with exact, supported data, not guessed variants. Then compare the Sheriff's transfer entry, the federal or immigration case context, and any named receiving custodian. If the issue concerns a federal pretrial prisoner or BOP release, the U.S. Marshals or BOP route may be the proper system rather than ICE.
Do not infer an immigration outcome from nationality, name, language, or charge type. Use this route only when an official record or known case fact points to immigration custody.
ICE Notification and Assistance
The official ICE Victims Engagement and Services Line is an agency channel for eligible users and case-related services. It is not the same as Minnesota VINE. County VINE covers qualifying county jail custody events, while the ICE route applies to immigration custody.
Registration or notice in one system should not be assumed to move automatically to another. A person can cross from Le Sueur County custody to ICE, just as a county defendant committed to Minnesota DOC crosses from VINE to Minnesota Haven. The receiving authority determines the next notification system.
Keep the case identifier, A-number if known, county booking number, and transfer date available when contacting an official channel. These details help separate people with similar names and clarify which custody stage is at issue.
ICE Release Versus Transfer
“Released by Le Sueur County” can describe the end of county control while another agency immediately takes custody. That phrasing should not be reported as a return to the community without the disposition or receiving entry. Minnesota law expressly separates public release fields from public transfer fields, which makes the distinction available through a focused request.

A Le Sueur County court disposition explains the local criminal matter. It does not decide the separate civil immigration case. Conversely, an ICE locator result does not replace the Le Sueur County release or transfer record for the original jail booking.
No Le Sueur ICE Center
No ICE detention center was verified as physically located in Le Sueur County, and no county ICE detention contract was verified. The immigration detention network is included because it can receive a person after local or federal custody, not because the county operates an immigration facility.
There is therefore no supported local ICE address, release gate, visit schedule, pickup area, or processing-hours claim. Use the facility identified through the official ICE route for current logistics. Ask Le Sueur County only about its own release or transfer entry.
The same restraint applies to search timing. Research did not verify how long an ICE record remains displayed after a custody change, and automated access to current explanatory details was blocked. Do not promise a retention window or call one failed search a release. Preserve the search date, confirm the identity data, and use an official case channel for the status that the public locator does not resolve.
This boundary matters. It prevents a national locator from being presented as a local facility and keeps the county, federal, and immigration records tied to the agencies that created them.
